Introducing a New Design! from Where Art & Life Meet

Yesterday I launched my latest design, Making Waves: A Drawstring Bag in my Etsy Shop! I also made a short video for it. My instructions are very, very detailed. I include everything from how to begin, to how to stitch this bag together and film all stages of the process. YouTube videos demonstrate every step… Continue reading Introducing a New Design!

What I Did Over the Weekend… from Where Art & Life Meet

I spent at least 16 hours this weekend analyzing and stitching examples of the Trellis Stitch. Specifically the spiral trellis stitch, which was one of dozens of stitches that adorned the Plimoth Jacket, a women’s waistcoat, made in the early 1600’s. Another heavily embroidered jacket is in the costume collection at the Metropolitan Museum here… Continue reading What I Did Over the Weekend…

Chaos, Humor & a Do-Over from Where Art & Life Meet

A little humor to start off the day. It must be said that my mother did not send me any of these, however she might have, had she seen them. Here you go, Mom. I love you. I’m feeling a bit like Pooh Bear. To any of you offended by the f-word, these are unprecedented… Continue reading Chaos, Humor & a Do-Over

Stitch, Vote, Stitch… from Where Art & Life Meet

If you haven’t already, VOTE! Every single vote counts. So go vote. And if you’re like me, you’ll be taking a little bag with you filled with some fabric, lots of threads and a pair of scissors neatly protected in a hand stitched Scissor Case. Oh c’mon, you didn’t expect me NOT to link to… Continue reading Stitch, Vote, Stitch…

Design, Exploration & A Finished Piece from Where Art & Life Meet

It all began with the Stem Stitch, a much over-looked stitch. I decided I needed to explore it and see if I could find a little excitement while doing so. I had no idea that this stitch would be the beginning of something wonderful! I pulled out some hand dyed linen that I’d bought and… Continue reading Design, Exploration & A Finished Piece

Organizing Threads, Stitching & Love from Where Art & Life Meet

Every now and then my work space becomes unmanageable. I’m not the most organized person, but I know where everything is in my little chaotic work area, until it reaches a point when I can’t stand it any more. So yesterday I did what my husband always does (he’s a masterful organizer) when he’s organizing… Continue reading Organizing Threads, Stitching & Love

A New Design, A Stroll & Mischief from Where Art & Life Meet

Let’s kick things off with a new design, shall we?! What? Didn’t she just unveil a new design a couple of weeks ago, you might ask. Yes. Yes, I did. I’ve been very busy! This last one is a companion piece to the Glasses Case. It’s a scissor case! Which, if you’re like me, you… Continue reading A New Design, A Stroll & Mischief

Stitching with Gimp and a lot of Laughter from Where Art & Life Meet

If you’d like to laugh and explore stitching (or in my case attempting to) with silk gimp and the thicker gimp that Painter’s Threads hand dyes, this was the live stream I did yesterday. Warning: We laughed A LOT. My attempts at using the crinkly silk gimp became more comedic than informative… However, I am… Continue reading Stitching with Gimp and a lot of Laughter

A New York City Adventure And the Winner is… from Where Art & Life Meet

I am a bit tardy in getting this post out to the world as I went on a little adventure this morning and filmed it so all of you can join me, if you like, tomorrow morning, when I post it on my YouTube Channel: Ariane Zurcher ~ On the Other Hand. I rarely go… Continue reading A New York City Adventure And the Winner is…

The Unveiling of a New Design & A Giveaway! from Where Art & Life Meet

This is the little promotional video I made for Instagram and below that is the slightly longer Youtube video I made. This is the first of two holiday projects I designed. They are small do-it-yourself projects that can be made up pretty quickly and are perfect gifts for yourself or someone else. I’m working away… Continue reading The Unveiling of a New Design & A Giveaway!

Designing and The Joys & Pitfalls of Live Streaming from Where Art & Life Meet

I did another live stream yesterday. We covered the Split Stitch and the Split Back Stitch, which I prefer. I really love live streaming. It’s so much more fun to demonstrate stitches when people are responding, giving suggestions, asking questions, than when I’m just demonstrating a stitch to a silent room. In addition I don’t… Continue reading Designing and The Joys & Pitfalls of Live Streaming

My Mother, British Humor, Thread Kits & More from Where Art & Life Meet

As I grow older I am more and more appreciative of my parents and all they did and, in my mother’s case, still does. So I begin this post with a photo of my parents, above. It’s one of my favorites. I think my mother was a little younger than I am now, when this… Continue reading My Mother, British Humor, Thread Kits & More

Color and Design from Where Art & Life Meet

When I was working as a contributing editor at Elle Magazine, the Fashion Director called me out loudly in front of the entire staff. She asked me if I was color blind, not in a concerned way, but as an accusation meant to humiliate, and demonstrate just how awful she thought my sense of color… Continue reading Color and Design

Music, Dining & Design from Where Art & Life Meet

All Along The Watchtower. Remember that song? Here you go. My new favorite YouTube Channel – Playing for Change presents musicians from around the world, bringing people together as only music and art can. One of my brothers, I’m fortunate enough to have three, asked me to send him photographs of the restaurants in NYC… Continue reading Music, Dining & Design

Curiosity, Exploring & Options from Where Art & Life Meet

Being curious has its downside, particularly in the middle of the night when I should be sleeping, but instead am listening to the air conditioner kick in while watching the ceiling fan make its rotations. Some random questions that entered my mind at around 3:30am: Where did the saying Curiosity Killed the Cat come from?… Continue reading Curiosity, Exploring & Options

Laughter, YouTube & A Handmade Needle Roll! from Where Art & Life Meet

During these times of uncertainty I find I am rethinking my “I hate the opera” proclamations of the past, having been moved to tears listening to Maurizio Marchini serenading his fellow Florentines from his balcony during the lockdown. I cannot listen to this man without crying. And then there are those crazy goats… what’s going… Continue reading Laughter, YouTube & A Handmade Needle Roll!

Back To Basics from Quiltwoman Blog

Many needlecrafts that were popular in years past have been having a surge of
renewed popularity. Just visit Pinterest and search for Needle Punch or Rug Punch
and you will be inspired to try a “new old craft”. I recently started doing hand
embroidery and needlepunch again after remembering how much I enjoyed doing them
as a teenager over 40 years ago.

Over the next few months at QuiltWoman.com we will be introducing “Make it Your Way” patterns that will help and encourage you to explore Needle Punch Embroidery, Hand Embroidery, Rug Punching or Hooking, and Easy Applique. Watch ...

YouTube, Blogging, Stitching & Life from Where Art & Life Meet

Things have been busy around here. I had the idea to start a YouTube channel over a year ago. My thought was to go through Sue Spargo’s Creative Stitching book and demonstrate every stitch (but for left-handed stitchers) featured in her book, one stitch a week. I discussed my idea with Anna Bates, my friend… Continue reading YouTube, Blogging, Stitching & Life
